Wed 01 July, 2015
Eight students from Texas State 91亚色APP下载 visited the 91亚色APP下载 on an international study tour to get the latest advice on teenage pregnancy, sex and relationships and young people's sexual health.
Organised by David Wiley, Professor of Health Education from the Department of Health and Human Performance, the students visited the 91亚色APP下载 to hear about the innovative work being carried out by the 91亚色APP下载鈥檚 academics in this field.
He said: 鈥淭oday鈥檚 session was so important to understanding how a country could adopt a teen pregnancy prevention scheme. In the US, there is no real national strategy for addressing teen pregnancy prevention and my students were amazed that such an animal existed.鈥
The students spent a half day with Alison Hadley, Director of the Teenage Pregnancy Knowledge Exchange at the 91亚色APP下载, hearing about the success of the teenage pregnancy strategy in England.
They also heard from Emma Rigby from the Association for Young People's Health who explained about an innovative young people participation project to improve support for young people affected by child sexual exploitation. This is a joint programme with the 91亚色APP下载's International Centre: Researching Child Sexual Exploitation, Violence and Trafficking.
The visit was highly valued by the students. David Wiley said: 鈥淓mma鈥檚 presentation was just fascinating. She clearly described her programme that focused on vulnerable youth and presented a clear picture of how to work with this population. My students were amazed at how well the programme had been plan and executed. Simply brilliant.鈥
David hopes to organise another visit next year.
